Seneca-Tompkins Music Education Association's All-County Band STEMA's All-County Band Festival was able to return for the first time this year since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. This year’s festival took place at Lansing Middle School on November 18th and 19th. Participating districts included Dryden, Groton, Ithaca, Lansing, Newfield, South Seneca, and Trumansburg. The students who were selected to attend this year's festival worked with guest conductors from Ithaca College during the festival weekend and presented a concert on the afternoon of November 19th. These students all spent many hours after school hours preparing their music for their honors band rehearsals and performance. The following students participated in the High School Honor Band: Tajade Amisano (Alto Saxophone, 10th), Ruth Dendis (French Horn, 10th), and Abigail Sherry (Percussion, 11th). The following students participated in the Middle School Honor Band: Kayleigh Banfield (Trombone, 8th), Kennedy Basher (Oboe, 6th), Paul “Trey” Brock (Baritone Saxophone, 6th), Isabella Cotto (Trombone, 6th), Sophia Jennings (Clarinet, 6th), Nadja Paparone (Clarinet, 6th), and Autumn Vonderchek (Trombone, 8th).

Public Notice December 6: Please be aware that we are seeing a much higher than usual number of absences this week, at the same time we have been alerted by the NYS Department of Health and Education Department about a large spike in respiratory illness across the state. We at South Seneca are encouraging everyone in the community to take extra precautions this winter to stay current on vaccinations, wash hands often, cover coughs and sneezes, and stay home when sick. Preventing contagious disease is a community effort.

Both High School Garden Lit classes participated in New York Agriculture in the Classroom's Mac & Cheese Innovation Challenge this week. Here is the description from NY Agriculture: "With cheese taking the starring role in this favorite food, we find ourselves lucky to live in New York where so many delicious cheese varieties are produced. The dairy industry is the largest agricultural sector in the state and makes more than one billion pounds of all cheeses annually. Around 15 billion pounds of milk are produced on nearly 3,600 farms across the Empire State, making New York the 5th largest dairy producing state in the nation." South Seneca students received a great assortment of spices from NY Ag in the Classroom, a cutting board, two measuring cups, and a mac & cheese idea book. Each of the classes have come up with their own recipes (it has to be an original recipe) and will now have to come up with a marketing slogan for their mac & cheese version. On today's menu: Buffalo Chicken Mac n' Cheese Pie! And it was soooo tasty!

Good morning this is Steve Parker Zielinski, Superintendent at South Seneca. There is a water main break this morning in Interlaken, and with a half-day of instruction scheduled, we will need to cancel school today for Grades PK-5. Interlaken staff will report at noon, and all scheduled parent teacher conferences for this afternoon will take place as planned. The public information session for the capital project proposal will also go on as scheduled. Once again, school is cancelled today for grades PK-5 only. Thank you.
