Before winter break High School Social Studies teacher Andy Collins and his classes went on some incredible field trips!
His US History juniors went to Seneca Falls to the women's rights national history museum, where the park rangers were able to give us a history of the 1848 Seneca Falls Convention that the students have been learning about in class. Students were able to look around the chapel where the convention was held and then go to the visitors center and get a tour of the museum and learn more about US Women's history and the men and women who attended the convention in 1848.
Meanwhile, his Participation in Government seniors were tasked with picking a local issue in their community and thinking of ways to solve it. But instead, these seniors decided they wanted to take action! They identified food insecurity as their focus issue and decided they were going to gather food donations and turn them into meal bags that people could grab to make meals. They did all the organizing and leg work to bring boxes to local businesses and our own school, make the posters, contacting local organizations and businesses for donations, and then collecting the donations and organizing the donations into bags. We then brought the donations to the Ovid Federated Church to their food pantry.

One of this year’s South Seneca fall sports highlights was the Girls Varsity Volleyball team finishing second in the Finger Lakes West this season with a record of 11-7.
Behind those efforts, South Seneca Girls Varsity Volleyball Head Coach Laura Wyckoff was recently named Coach of the Year by the Finger Lakes Times. We recently caught up with Coach Wyckoff about what the recognition meant to her.
Here is that conversation:
