"Letters To Daddy" is a little musical that packs a powerful message — and one surrounding the impacts and ramifications of bullying and bully culture.
Our Falcon Players cast members all shared their thoughts on bullies, being bullied, and bystanders.
We will be sharing them day-by-day, leading up to the show. Today, we continue with Auburn Mitchell.
Auburn said:
"Bystanders wait for a different bystander to report and don't do anything."
The Falcon Players will perform their musical production on the South Seneca HS Auditorium stage March 17th, 18th & 19th!

Today, we start with the musician's lead, Abby Sherry, who plays Caroline.
Abby said:
"Bullying is something most people have stories about and experiences with. With that said it's interesting to me how easily people forget what it's like to be bullied/harrassed once they're on the other side of it, whether that be the bully themselves or simply a bystander to bullying. In "Letters to Daddy," Caroline was picked on as a kid for being skinny, so when she sees someone being bullied she literally fights against it. In my opinion, we would benefit as a society if we gained the courage, like Caroline, to fight against the torment that is bullying so that fewer people would have to experience the desolate feeling of being bullied."

Congratulations to Sofia Moses for being selected to draw and design the 2023-24 Course Guide Cover for the High School!
For the past 25 years, one talented 11th grade student has been selected to create the Course Guide cover for their Senior year and have an official published artwork that many people will see and they can add to their portfolio.
This year, Sofia decided to draw the cover and then create a digital mock-up for printing. When asked, Sofia stated, "My design was inspired by school spirit and that everyone has the possibility to change the world."

A big CONGRATS to all these High School Falcons! #foreverfalcons

Garden Lit classes have been busy getting ready for spring weather! They have used this time to assemble some raised garden planters that were purchased for them through the Creating Healthy Schools Grant.
They also have learned about starting seeds indoors in preparation for the spring planting season. They collected some flower seeds in the flower garden part of the community garden in the fall, and have planted some of those collected seeds to get a start on some flower plants to put around their greenhouse and outdoor classroom area.
Students also placed requests for vegetable and flower seeds to be ordered through two NYS seed companies: Hudson Valley Seed Co and Fruition Seeds. These orders are arriving and will be started very soon! In addition to learning about the importance of soil health and why we should be worried about the health of our garden soil, students have been learning how to re-pot house plants to help with their overall health. Many snake plants were split and transplanted and found new homes with our students. They know it's only February, but spring will be just around the corner so they are working to be ready!

Today is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day. We could not be more thankful and lucky to have Deputy McNabb and Deputy Presher as our SROs! #foreverfalcons

Congratulations go to South Seneca High School's Sylvia Brock (10th Grade), who was selected to attend NYSSMA's Zone 3 Area All-State Mixed Chorus on February 4, 2023. Sylvia is a member of South Seneca High School Chorus and Vocal Jazz, a select, auditioned ensemble.
Singers selected to Sr. High Area All-State are chosen based on their NYSSMA scores from Solo Festival the previous year. It is a great honor to be chosen among thousands of applicants. Students are picked from all the applicants in NYSSMA's Zone 3 in grades 10 through 12. Zone 3 is one of the largest zones in the state.
Sylvia worked with a guest conductor, Brandon Williams, from Rutgers University and presented a concert of Choral Works on February 4 in Ford Hall at Ithaca College. Brava, Sylvia!

High School Chorus welcomed Dr. Kevin Dibble to class on February 6, 2023. Dr. Kevin Dibble is currently the Director of Choral Activities at Houghton University in Houghton, NY. He earned his Bachelor and Master's Degrees from Houghton as well and earned a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from University of Iowa in Choral Conducting. Before teaching at Houghton University, Dr. Dibble has had appointments at Temple University, Cairn University, and Gordon College.
Dr. Dibble worked with High School Chorus students both in small group lessons and in class. He also worked with Vocal Jazz during their class as well. Dr. Dibble worked with students on their Vocal Technique and was able to bring a unique, personal perspective to our Tenor and Bass singers.
If anyone is interested in more information about Houghton University, please contact Mrs. Perry.
