A struggling playwright in Elizabethan England seeks out a soothsayer to find out what the next big thing will be in theatre in order to best The Bard, William Shakespeare. But are the 1590s ready for a musical???. This raucous comedy is directed by Theater Association of New Your State award winner Tina Coville-Bauder and a number of the actors and the production team have been recognized by TANYS as well. Something Rotten! features a wacky cast of over-the-top characters, each with their own moment to shine. Headliners Alec Targett as Shakespeare, Dan Papperman as Nick Bottom, Chamberlain Bauder as Nigel Bottom, and Jared Pratt as Nostradamus are joined by Ave Bauder, Chad Eastman, Andrea Puls, Julia Rogers, Mark Sinkiewicz, and Emily Suggs in key roles and a supporting cast of nearly 20 additional performers.
A unique feature of The BTLCS Players is that each year a not-for-profit charity is selected to work with the production team to help promote and raise money and awareness for their organization and mission. On January 21, 2025, a devastating fire in the main business block of the village of Ovid destroyed multiple businesses and displaced many residents. The Ovid Fire Department, along with many other agencies from across the area, battled the inferno for hours to bring it under control. Funds raised through this summer’s production will be donated to the Department for the purpose of replacing equipment.
“Joining with the Ovid Fire Department as our community partner was an easy choice for us.” said Coville-Bauder. “The town has really come together to support each other, and we are hoping that between program patrons and large audiences we will be able to make a significant donation to the department. I’ve wanted to do this show ever since I took a group of my Drama Club students to see it with the original cast on Broadway, and our cast this summer is having a blast. You don’t have to be a Shakespeare lover or a musical theater junkie to enjoy this show, but if you are, you are really going to love it. It’s a bit like Monty Python meets Shakespeare.”
