South Seneca FFA attended the 100th NY FFA Conference at the NY State Fairgrounds in Syracuse from Wednesday, May 7 to Friday, May 9. Students were able to participate in so many activities, and had a tremendous experience, High School Teacher Patty Parsons said.

On Day 1, students were able to help out with some community service by helping the NY Grange paint picnic tables for the State Fairgrounds. Students were also able to work in teams to make bluebird houses to bring home. Students enjoyed learning about the history of agriculture in the Witter Agriculture Museum. They saw demos of wood turning and wool spinning. Students also saw many artifacts of agriculture and learned about commerce in the past. They also went to our first general session and we were able to hear Richard Ball, Commissioner of Agriculture for NY speak. Students also checked out the Mobile Dairy Experience trailer to learn about the dairy industry.

On Day 2, students participated in the Ice Cream Challenge workshop where students made their own ice cream flavor, including branding materials. Once the ice cream was made, ice cream from all 8 competing teams was sampled and voted on and our flavor tied for first place! We then participated in the Sr. Quiz Bowl! Everyone had the chance to buzz in and answer questions and a good time was had by all! Students were also able to interact with vendors at the expo and try out the tractor trailer simulator.

On Day 3, students went to a couple of general sessions and were able to see their fellow NY FFA members get recognized for their accomplishments throughout the year. We also checked out the Mobile Dairy Experience trailer for a second time to learn more about the dairy industry.

Many thanks to Jack, Hunter, Lee, Caleb, and Derek for their positive attitudes and willingness to participate! Students had a great time and learned a lot!
