Mandatory Spring Sports Meeting Mandatory Spring Sports Meeting: There will be a mandatory Spring Sports meeting for parents, coaches and athletes on March 5th at 6:30 in the HS Media Center. The evening will start with presentations from Mrs. Mott, our athletic trainer, and Coach Nick Quartaro. After the presentations, players will meet with their coaches. Meeting Sean Green Meeting Sean Green: This school year, South Seneca students have had the chance to get to know the new guidance counselor, Sean Green.   Mr. Green grew up in Middleburgh, New York and graduated from a district close to the size of South Seneca. He attended the State University of New York at Oswego, majoring in communications and minoring in psychology.   During the summers, Mr. Green worked as a counselor at a summer camp in the Adirondack region and gained experience working with kids of all ages, especially 15- to 17-year-olds.   After earning his bachelor’s degree, Mr. Green went on to receive a master’s degree in school counseling also from SUNY Oswego in May of 2019. Master Teacher Honors Master Teacher Honors: South Seneca Elementary teacher Liz McCheyne has been accepted into the New York State Master Teacher Program.   The Master Teacher Program was created to celebrate the state’s best STEM educators, provide access to current and relevant professional development and create a network of focused and dedicated teachers. The program was originally only available for middle and high school educators but is now open to K-12 STEM educators.   McCheyne was accepted as a Master Teacher in the fall of 2019 and is the first educator from South Seneca to achieve this status. She currently teaches fifth grade science.   Master Teachers participate in monthly cohort meetings that include workshops built around a variety of topics relating to STEM education.   “My ...

Kids Night Out Kids Night Out: On FRIDAY, December 6, 2019 from 5:30pm-9:00pm , Senior and Junior National Honor Societies will host a Kid’s Night Out for students in grades Pre-K through Grade 5 at the Ovid Campus to allow parents a free night while knowing their child is having supervised fun.  Admission is $6.00 per student, which is to be paid AT THE DOOR.       Kids will not be given dinner, but should already have eaten their dinner at home prior to arrival.  They will be provided a snack half way through the night.              Students will be grouped into groups of ten, based on their grade level (pre-K through 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd , and 4 th and 5 th ) and will be lead around the activities by responsible ...
After School Programs After School Programs: Extended School Day programs at South Seneca are in their fourth year of providing a variety of exciting activities for students after class hours.   After-school offerings are supported by a five-year Extended Day/School Violence Prevention grant from the New York State Department of Education. Funding from the grant helps South Seneca provide after-school programs for students at the elementary, middle and high school levels.   Students who participate can choose from activities such as horseback riding at D & K Ranch, skiing at Bristol Mountain, photograph , and STEM activities in the MakerSpace club. Elementary students can learn about science and the environment with Children in the Stream, learn coding and computer science or participate in drama performances. ...
